Our Christmas Party

112 guests and others joined us last night for our annual christmas party. Our new beachfront restaurant worked brilliantly as the location. Turkeys gobbled and seafood BBQ'd alongside some classic entertainment. Traditional Thai dancers from Phuket plus cabaret performances from 2 of our staff, David on guitar and Ben as MC all made for a fun filled festive evening.
This year we had quite a few families, so the party games went down well with the children, Mums & Dads.
The whole evening was topped off nicely by fireworks and a spectacular fireshow from Carpe Diem Bar.
Now just enough time for the staff to recover and get ready for New Year!

Our new beach restaurant

Coming soon, Phi Phi Villa Resort is building a new beach restaurant in front our the resort. A to give our guests an even better experience, and secondly to improve our view. The new construction is very light and wooden, no concrete buildings here! Just so that we can maximise the view while providing our diners with some shade.

makeovers and other news

We've been busy this low season doing some makeovers to our Luxury Deluxe Villa's, inlcuding new bathrooms and new bed fittings. We hope our regular customers will be pleased with the upgrades and new customers will get tempted to visit us.

We've actually been pretty busy this low season, but most days you can still find a nice relaxing lounger by our pool and even though its officially rainy season, on Phi Phi we are lucky to only get about 1 hour in the day, then sunshine. Happily it rains most in the nightime, helping to keep it cooler.

We're also busy building a new restaurant on the beach, which we hope will be ready for high season. more on that later

Thailand's Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrives on Phi Phi tomorrow to officially open the school. Right now there are navy boats in the sea and big preparations along the route. Here you can see the Phi Phi Villa staff making our little bit of her route presentable.
If you want a chance to see the parade, we still have deluxe rooms at our special price of 1600 baht per night, and you can sit in the cool shade of our reception enjoying a coffee or cocktail from Love Cafe Phi Phi or watch it all go by sitting in a lounger beside our lovely swimming pool.

Latest Travel advice for Bangkok

The UK embassy has issued the following warning about Bangkok:

We expect shooting and intense violence in Ratchaprarop / Din Daeng area and other violent areas. As a further precaution, please avoid department stores in Bangkok. If safe to do so, please return home or stay where you are safe.

The airport remains open as normal but we suggest avoiding any stay in Bangkok and adjusting your travel plans accordingly. Phi Phi Island and the travel routes to/from Phi Phi are not affected.

Probably the safest way to get here or leave here is to take a connecting flight to/from Bangkok International Airport - there are many low cost airlines flying in and out each day to either Krabi or Phuket - this will avoid any contact with the troubed areas of Bangkok.

Safe Travels - if in doubt contact your own embassy/consulate and keep an eye on the media for further updates.

Travel warnings

There are travel warnings being posted on embassy websites about political protests in Thailand. These mainly cover warnings about Bangkok. We would like to reassure visitors to Phi Phi and the surrounding areas that there are no protests or danger here. However, it looks like the sensible thing to do is avoid Bangkok - maybe change any plans you have to visit there in the next days - stay longer here.

Phi Phi is a small island which suffered badly in the Tsunami, it is recovering but things that may seem simple to source in the western world can be a huge problem on the island. It simply can’t produce what it needs to support its tourism business. For example the Water and water pressure is a continuing challenge for the whole of Phi Phi and its people. With vast numbers of tourists visiting the island especially during high season, huge pressure is felt on the very limited supplies that Phi Phi has. The people who live and work on Phi Phi do their best to overcome these very real problems and quite amazingly do it with smiles on their faces.

The higher prices on the island are a reflection of the real costs of getting everything on and off the island. All the required daily supplies for all of the people on the island as well as the huge amount of building supplies needed for the massive rebuild which has taken place have had to be shipped to the island. Accommodation on Phi Phi is expensive compared to the mainland, in fact it's probably one of the more expensive islands to stay on in Thailand for the reasons given above.
However, having said all of that - the scenery and nature, the surrounding seas and islands and the people and their culture are breathtakingly beautiful. Phi Phi island is truly magical.

The company trip advisor appears to have lost many positive comments that our guests have given and have been posted on their website regarding Phi Phi Villa Resort.
It seems that other hotels are suffering similar problems with trip advisor. Comments from guests who haven't stayed there, incorrect reviews and again missing positive comments have been noticed.
We accept that there is always a mix of good and bad in reviews and Phi Phi or any resort for that matter cannot be to everyone’s taste. But a site which loses many positive comments has to be considered unfair.
We have tried to complain to trip advisor on a number of occasions but they seem to be avoiding it rather than dealing with it.

The christmas 'Red' party, held in the Roti bar and on the beach was a great success. The Thai dancers and sky lanterns were particular highlights. Three 6.5kilo turkeys cooked, sort of miraculously in a barbeque oven were gobbled up!
Now staff slightly recovered from all the extra duties are starting to prepare for the new year's party. Further details will be posted but highlights are poolside BBQ, live music, Traditional Thai dancing, and fireshow + new year party/dancing in Carpe Diem.

Last night into the small hours the staff and children of Phi Phi Villa Resort sat together on the floor in the small office, making the Villa Loy krathong. A little production line of creativity, everyone sharing the same vision of the finished Loy Krathong. Today they are taking it in turns, around their jobs, to finish placing the flowers.
Loy Krathong, literally means floating boats made from banana palm. These little boats are decorated and filled with candles, incense and in some cases coins or personal things. The Festival encourages rememberance and togetherness - its always held on the full moon of the 11th month - and acts as a marker of a year passing and another year beginning.

Phi Phi Villa Resort is busy but its still low season here and the weather has been just too much rain.

Development of our new Spa and Gym building beside the swimming pool is coming along nicely, it now has doors and is being decorated inside.

Phi Phi Villa Resort football team have been doing very well in the inter Phi Phi football championships, in the first round they beat Rimlay 2-o with the first goal being happily scored in the second half by GM.
